The Rules

The stations that I will be visiting as part of this journey can be found on The Stations page. However, there are some clear rules and expectations that I will be following throughout this journey:
-
I must board or alight (in most cases, it will be both!) a train at every station - once I step off a train at a station I plan to visit, I must then board a different service so I cannot just get back onto the same train.
-
I will endeavour to keep accurate and detailed records of not only the services and units that I travel on, but also mileage and journey time information, and of course punctuality! There are some stations where train arrival and/or departure times are not recorded on public websites so in these cases, I will refer to the time shown on my mobile phone (which is determined by GPS signals).
-
Pre-planned rail replacement bus services (e.g. for engineering works) will be avoided at all costs, however there may be cases when short-notice disruption occurs during my journey and on those occasions, using an emergency rail replacement bus service will be permitted.
-
I will not be using any taxi services or relying on any lifts from family or friends, so for those stations where there is a very limited train service, careful planning will be required to enable an overnight stay close by, or alternatively a local bus service may be utilised. Otherwise, a walk to the closest station will be required.
-
At every station that I visit, I will plan to spend a reasonable amount of time there to explore the station itself, and the immediate local surroundings so plenty of interesting photos will be taken and shared.
-
My visits to stations will be undertaken during daylight hours, and adverse weather conditions may mean that visits get postponed at short notice.
-
While I am at each station, I will try and post at least one 'live' photo on social media, along with the year that the station opened and my initial thoughts on what I find there.
